Accuracy is the share of your keystrokes that were correct. Both matter: a fast but sloppy run is slower in practice, because every mistake has to be fixed.
Slow down until you rarely make mistakes, then add speed. Speed built on errors doesn’t last.
Learn the home row and touch typing so your hands stop searching for keys.
Most slowdowns come from a handful of keys and letter pairs. Targeted drills fix them faster than general typing.
Ten focused minutes beat one long weekly session. Consistency builds muscle memory.
One word is counted as five characters, including spaces. Your WPM is the number of correct characters you typed, divided by five, divided by the minutes you spent typing.
A 60 second test is steadier because a short burst can be skewed by a fast start or one slow word. Use 30 seconds for a quick check and 60 seconds for a more reliable number.
Aim for 95% or higher. Below that, mistakes cost you more time in corrections than the extra speed gains.
